k+s got married on the river, in the mountains, su k+s got married on the river, in the mountains, surrounded by the impeccable historic, river rock & natural elements that have gone into the preserved architecture at @brownmountainbeach 🥹

i must note here as well that this venue has done some incredible labor of love, rebuilding the damaged parts after hurricane helene. the hands that tend to the details of weddings here also physically worked to rebuild together. communal rebuilding is prevalent all over western north carolina and is one of the most devastating and beautiful things i’ve ever witnessed.

can’t get enough of the messy parts — the dini can’t get enough of the messy parts — the dining table covered in crumbs & sipped drinks. the coat hanging over the chair. the air itself thick with good conversation & laughter & love. 🖤

sloooowly going through photos from k+s’s north carolina wedding weekend. planned and curated by the sweetest @leahslankford at @brownmountainbeach, with florals by the lovely @the.edgemont.garden
in love with intimate ceremonies. 🫶 “That, I in love with intimate ceremonies. 🫶

“That, I think, is the power of ceremony. It marries the mundane to the sacred. The water turns to wine; the coffee to a prayer.“
— Robin Kimmerer
I recently photographed one of my very best friend I recently photographed one of my very best friends on a significant day in her divorce process.

Getting to witness her through this transformational season of life has been breathtaking. Beauty and humanity and kindness like you wouldn’t believe. I’m in awe of her.

I’ve spent so much time reflecting on love and loss. On nuance and opposites. As above, so below. Grief and the human experience and tenderness are what I know — it is when we become quite intimate with death that we may really live.

Impermanence makes love rich. That we can’t predict everything — that things spontaneously change — that mortality threatens our heartbeat — makes loving a huge risk. Knowing that we can lose who we love in many ways makes commitment more powerful. Knowing that the open flower will die makes its fragrance holy.

Thank you for letting me sit with you in love & loss & joy & sorrow & beauty & terror.
